英格蘭中央大學Central England University 伯明翰是英國第二大城市和制造工業中心，位于英格蘭中部，也是歐洲最激動人心、充滿活力與動感的現代都市。伯明翰有國際機場，從倫敦市中心坐汽車或者火車抵達伯明翰只需大約90分鐘。伯明翰城內博物館、畫廊、劇院、Premier足球俱樂部、室內劇場與會議中心比比皆是，另有愛爾蘭、中國、塞浦路斯等少數民族聚居地，所以在當地百家餐館內幾乎可以品嘗到世界各地美味佳肴，特別是巴爾干風味大受學生歡迎。伯明翰周圍也有不少名勝古跡，如歷史名城 Warwick Castle, 莎翁故居Strarford-Upon-Avon，的鄉村景色。

 

英格蘭中央大學（UCE）是伯明翰第三大知名學府，其前身是創建于1843年的伯明翰技術學院。UCE同時也是英國最大的學府之一，擁有25,000名在校生，其中有700多名來自50多個國家的留學生。

Introduction to the University of Central England 
 
Ensconced on nine sites around Birmingham, the largest of which is Perry Barr, the University of Central England was once Birmingham Polytechnic, 11 colleges of art, music and education. Other sites include the leafy suburbs of Bournville and Edgbaston. The jewellery school is, appropriately, in the city centre's famous old jewellery quarter, and most of the arts and design courses are taught at Gosta Green. The students' union does its best to unify these varied places.

UCE sees itself as the "responsive university" and retains an emphasis on vocational courses, good links with industry and non-traditional means of entry: in 1997, 22% of full-time first years came through GNVQ and Access courses. They take students' opinions seriously here: a scheme instituted by the influential Centre for Research into Quality and has resulted in investment in library stock and computers.

Students come largely from the local area. In 1997, 66% of first years had homes within a 50-mile radius, and more than a quarter were from ethnic minorities. These facts, along with UCE's ample provision of part-time courses, embed the university into Birmingham, itself the heart of England.

The city itself has much to offer, wherever you live. Along with Southall, Leicester and Bradford, it makes curry heaven available here on earth.
